Five police officers have been killed and two others injured in a gunfight with suspected bandits in Sabon Sara village, Darazo LGA of Bauchi State.

Gatekeepers News reports that according to a statement by the state command on Sunday, tactical teams from Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 10 PMF Bauchi, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and State Intelligence Department (SID) were on an intelligence-driven patrol on Saturday to prevent potential farmer-herder clashes when they were ambushed by unidentified youths around 11:30 a.m.

Those killed in the attack include Ahmad Muhammad, a DSP with the SID; Mustapha Muhammad, an ASP with 10 PMF; Amarhel Yunusa and Idris Ahmed, inspectors with 10 PMF; and Isah Muazu, a corporal with the AKU. Two other officers, Inspectors Isah Musa and Yusuf Gambo of the SID, sustained injuries.

Police spokesperson ASP Ahmed Wakil said reinforcements were promptly deployed to the scene. He said, “Upon receiving the report, the DPO in Darazo led a team to the scene and successfully evacuated both the injured and the deceased officers.”

He noted that the injured were taken to the general hospital in Darazo, while the deceased were deposited at the morgue.

Wakil added that several bandits were neutralised during the clash, and operations are ongoing to apprehend those who fled. He said, “The command is fully committed to ensuring that the criminals responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.”

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the scene, offering condolences to the families of the fallen officers. He said, “These brave men paid the supreme price in the line of duty. We shall remain relentless in protecting the lives and property of the people of Bauchi State.”

The command urged residents to stay calm and continue supporting security efforts in the area.
