Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Radda, has signed the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill of N897.86 billion into law, maintaining the exact figures earlier presented to the State House of Assembly. The budget, themed “Building Your Future III,” was signed on Wednesday at the Government House chamber.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Governor Radda, who presented the budget on November 4, commended the Assembly for approving it within 21 days. The lawmakers passed the proposal without alterations, preserving its structure of 18% Recurrent Expenditure and 81% Capital Expenditure.

Speaking at the signing, the governor said the budget was shaped by extensive public consultations.

According to him, the document was compiled “only after opinions from people across the 361 wards in the 34 councils were gathered through town hall meetings.” He added that over 70,000 residents attended these meetings, listing their needs and priorities, which were then incorporated into the final budget.

Radda praised the lawmakers for their dedication, acknowledging their “sleepless nights” and sacrifice of their holidays to thoroughly deliberate on the proposal. He also highlighted the strong relationship between the executive and the legislature, urging the Assembly to continue this cooperation.

He further encouraged the lawmakers to intensify their oversight responsibilities by “following up on projects and programmes to be executed in the budget.”

In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Hon. Nasiru Yahaya, said the lawmakers spent three weeks scrutinising the budget to ensure it aligned with the expectations of the people.

He noted that after their deliberations, the House resolved to pass the proposal exactly as submitted by the government. Yahaya prayed for the “successful implementation of the budget so that the people would enjoy the dividends of democracy.”

N14.05bn Water Conservation Project

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Government has initiated a N14.05 billion water conservation project in Faskari Local Government Area. The project, executed in partnership with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) programme, aims to tackle climate change, desertification, and environmental degradation.

Governor Radda officially handed over the project site to the construction company on Tuesday in the Sabon Layin Galadima community.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing water security and restoring degraded lands, stressing that effective water conservation is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), improving food production, supporting pastoral communities, expanding domestic water access, and building resilience against extreme weather conditions.
