President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his administration’s resolve to confront the underlying drivers of insecurity and strengthen social unity across Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking at the Passing-Out Parade of Regular Course 7 at Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, he urged newly commissioned officers to remain steadfast in their duty to protect the nation, even when sacrifice is required.
Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the President charged the 1,187 new Assistant Superintendents of Police to uphold discipline, integrity, and loyalty as they begin their careers.
He assured them that the federal government will continue to provide the academy, the police, and other security agencies with the resources, equipment, and training needed to perform effectively.
Tinubu highlighted the academy’s role in shaping a professional, rights-respecting police force capable of maintaining peace and order.
He said, “As you embark on this noble journey, remember that you are not just enforcers of the law, you are guardians of our collective security and well-being.”
“Your role is pivotal in maintaining peace, stability, and trust in our communities. I urge you to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and service to the nation.”
The president reminded the officers of the trust the nation places in them, noting that they must treat every citizen with respect and fairness, and uphold the rule of law, even as they stand ready to make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary.
Tinubu also reaffirmed the government’s vision for a strengthened police university capable of producing highly trained and well-educated officers.
He commended the academy’s leadership for providing world-class training rooted in honesty, accountability, and professional conduct, adding that its mission aligns with the administration’s broader security goals.
Earlier, Academy Commandant AIG Patrick Adedeji Atayero disclosed that the graduating officers had earned Bachelor’s Degrees across various fields, having been deemed worthy in both character and learning.
The institution, founded in 1998 and now a degree-awarding academy offering postgraduate programmes, continues to serve as Nigeria’s premier centre for police education.
The event drew several dignitaries, including Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, senior military commanders, government officials, and members of the National Assembly.
