Alexander Isak has ended his long wait for a Premier League goal as Liverpool earned a 2-0 victory over West Ham.
Gatekeepers News reports that theSwedish striker, who joined the Reds for a record fee in September, had struggled to make an impact, but he finally found the net at the London Stadium with a calm finish just inside the hour. The goal was only his second for the club in all competitions.
Liverpool, coming into the match after a poor run of defeats, needed a strong response. Arne Slot said, “There’s definitely a feeling of relief because if you have lost so many times, then winning is important.”
Slot added that the team delivered the type of performance he expected, especially with the clean sheet.
Isak had missed several early chances, including one effort Areola pushed away, but his breakthrough lifted the team after a difficult few weeks.
Liverpool’s form had been worrying, with heavy losses in Europe and the Premier League, but the win helped them climb back into the top half of the table.
West Ham showed early fight and paid tribute to their former captain Billy Bonds before kickoff, but their afternoon worsened when Lucas Paqueta received two quick bookings and was sent off in the closing minutes.
With West Ham reduced to ten men, Liverpool sealed the result when Cody Gakpo struck a late goal after a poor defensive clearance.
