Troops of Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have seized a vehicle transporting a large haul of cannabis during an operation in the Agbede response area of Kabba-Bunu LGA, Kogi State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the arrest, announced on Tuesday through a statement shared by NigerianArmyInfo and signed by Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug-trafficking routes tied to banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
The statement explained that troops on patrol on Monday stopped a red Toyota Camry bearing registration number ABJ 325LA, which was allegedly transporting illicit substances from Ekiti State to Borno State.
The driver, identified as Hamisu Sule, reportedly attempted to flee on sighting the checkpoint, a mobile measure the military periodically deploys to block criminal movement along major transit corridors. He was eventually tracked and arrested along the Apata–Lokoja Road in Lokoja LGA.
According to the Army, a total of 306 parcels of Cannabis Sativa weighing 276 kilograms were recovered.
The suspect and the seized drugs have since been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Kogi for further investigation and action.
Reaffirming its stance on public safety, the Brigade reiterated that the Nigerian Army remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining a robust presence across the state, and preventing criminals from operating with impunity.
