ADC Coalition Is Weak Without Clear Zoning Framework— Peter Obi

Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has said that African Democratic Congress coalition is struggling because it has not settled its zoning formula or agreed on how major political positions should rotate.

Gatekeepers News reports that the former Anambra Governor made the comments during a YouTube interview with ‘Advocacy for Good Governance’ on Wednesday.

Obi explained that although he supports the coalition ahead of the 2027 election, the group must establish firm principles that every member will uphold.

He said there are still unresolved areas, especially regarding informal understandings about the presidency and how key offices should be shared. According to him, these issues must be properly organised to avoid confusion later.

Obi expressed trust in those leading the initiative, noting his respect for David Mark and describing Atiku Abubakar as “his leader.” Obi said he believes the figures at the helm have the experience needed to guide the process.

When asked if he would stay loyal to the coalition even if he is not selected as its presidential candidate, Obi said his priority is the progress of the country, not personal ambition.

He said, “I’m not desperate to be president of Nigeria, I’m desperate to see Nigeria work.”
