Sokoto Govt Allocates N1.6bn For Hospital Renovations

Sokoto State Government has approved N1.66 billion for the renovation of six general hospitals across the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Wurno, after the State Executive Council meeting.

The hospitals to benefit from the renovations include Yabo, Shagari, Sabon Birni, Tangaza, Goronyo, and WCWC Hospital in Sokoto.

Dr. Wurno also revealed that the government has approved N100.076 million for the procurement of HIV/AIDS testing kits and consumables to sustain treatment programmes following the withdrawal of some foreign health supports.

In addition, the Council approved the 2026 State Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) at N702.56 billion, procurement of laptops, computers, and textbooks under SUBEB, as well as contracts for drainage construction and concrete drainage projects across the state.

The Waziri Junaidu History and Culture Bureau will also undergo upgrades and repairs at a cost of N287.57 million to preserve Sokoto’s cultural heritage.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who declared open the 15th regular Council meeting for 2025, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to executing projects that drive socio-economic development.

He commended Council members for their contributions, which he said have enabled the government to achieve significant progress across all sectors.

The Governor also expressed gratitude to the people of Sokoto State for their continued support and prayers, urging them to sustain the gesture.
