Nigeria Police Force says has revealed that every 2025 has recorded a satisfactory and commendable level of compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive stopping officers from serving as escorts or guards for VIPs.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Saturday, Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, said a special team was set up to monitor adherence to the order and ensure full enforcement. He explained that the team conducted a wide monitoring exercise across Lagos on Saturday.
According to him, the checks covered the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and other major locations.
Hundeyin said the team did not find any violation of the directive.
He said, “No case of unauthorised deployment of police personnel for VIP escort duties was recorded during the monitoring, and consequently, no arrest was made.”
The PDCadded that Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General (IGP) of Police, had restated his commitment to fully implementing the directive.
He said, “The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in redeploying its personnel to core policing duties aimed at enhancing general security, crime prevention, and protection of lives and property across the country,” he said.`
Hundeyin said the enforcement would continue nationwide without fear or favour, and urged the public to support efforts toward building a more professional, efficient, and citizen-centered policing system.
