Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (rtd) CFR, Betara of Biu, former Chief of Army Staff, and Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, has rejected claims linking him to individuals alleged to be terrorism financiers.
Gatekeepers News reports that he said the allegations, published by Sahara Reporters and based on the claims of Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi (rtd), are false, unfounded, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation.
It emphasised that Buratai has never been questioned, investigated, indicted, or associated with terrorism financing by any official body, security institution, intelligence agency, judicial panel, or diplomatic mission.
The statement noted that Buratai’s career spans over four decades of service to Nigeria, including leading operations that weakened Boko Haram and ISWAP, restored occupied territories, and returned displaced citizens to their homes. It described the allegations as inconsistent with his values and lifelong commitment to fighting terrorism.
Buratai’s office called on Sahara Reporters and Ali-Keffi to retract the claims and issue a public apology, warning that failure to do so could lead to legal action.
The statement added that Buratai remains focused on academic engagements, policy contributions, peace advocacy, and philanthropic initiatives, and that his legacy cannot be diminished by false narratives.
