Accord party screening committee has approved Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke to take part in the party’s governorship primary which is being held today in Osogbo.
Gatekeepers News reports that a statement signed by Ibe Thankgod, the committee chairman and the party’s national organising secretary, Adeleke was confirmed as the only aspirant seeking the ticket. Thankgod said the Governor fulfilled all nomination requirements.
The statement said, “The committee subsequently cleared Governor Adeleke as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket and concluded all required documentations with relevant bodies.”
Recall that Adeleke announced his membership of Accord Party on Tuesday, after resigning from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier in December, citing internal crisis at the national level as the reason for his departure.
At the primary, 150 delegates including five from each of Osun State’s 30 local government areas were due to vote. Given that Adeleke was unopposed, the election was largely procedural.
At the end of the voting, he secured 145 votes, while 5 votes were declared void, officially making him the party’s flagbearer for the August 2026 governorship election.
In response to his clearance and nomination, Adeleke expressed gratitude to the screening committee and the party leadership, declaring his readiness not only for the primary but for the general elections as well. He pledged to lead the Accord Party to victory by God’s grace.
