National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified reports surrounding the recall of Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles in France, stating that the affected product does not originate from Nigeria and is not registered for sale in the Nigerian market.

In a statement issued by the agency, NAFDAC explained that the recall was initiated by French authorities, Rappel Conso, due to the presence of undeclared allergens—milk and eggs—which may pose health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.

The statement, signed by NAFDAC’s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, on Monday, noted that the recalled product is not approved for distribution in Nigeria and that noodles remain on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation unlawful.

“The recalled product does not originate from Nigeria and is not registered by the Agency for sale in the Nigerian market,” NAFDAC stated, adding that the import ban “significantly reduces the likelihood of the affected product entering the country.”

As a proactive regulatory measure, the agency said it has intensified nationwide surveillance, directing all zonal directors and state coordinators to remain vigilant and immediately mop up the product if found within their jurisdictions.

“The Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on alert to prevent any attempted importation of the implicated product,” the statement added.

NAFDAC further reassured Nigerians that all Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands registered for sale in Nigeria are manufactured locally and approved only after meeting stringent regulatory requirements, including compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

The agency advised consumers to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered food products, and report any suspected sale or distribution of the recalled noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office or via its toll-free line, 0800-162-3322. Reports of adverse reactions can also be submitted through the agency’s e-reporting platforms on its official website.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring the safety of food products available to Nigerians.
