Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has completed the main transmission line of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano gas pipeline, according to the company’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ojulari disclosed this on Sunday after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, where he briefed the President on the company’s performance and outlook. He said NNPC has now finished welding the main pipeline, describing it as a major milestone for the long-delayed project.
Ojulari said, ““You remember sometime in summer, we were able to cross the River Niger which has been a struggle for many years.”
He explained that the completion of the main line will allow the company to begin connecting other facilities to the pipeline early next year, paving the way for gas supply to key northern cities.
The NNPC boss said, “By completing this main line, what that means is that we can begin to make all the connections to the main line, which we will do in the earlier parts of next year.”
Ojulari added that the project is expected to support industrial growth across Kaduna, Kano, Ajaokuta, and Abuja, with gas feeding industries, fertiliser plants, and power generation facilities.
The NNPC boss said his visit to the President was also to present an update on the company’s 2025 performance and discuss strategic priorities for 2026. He noted that internal reforms backed by the President have contributed to improved output across the sector.
Ojulari said, You’ve seen our production this year. Last year we were about 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd). This year we’re getting to about over 1.7 million bpd in terms of oil production.”
He also said gas production has risen significantly, attributing the gains to structural changes within the organisation and renewed investment interest in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Looking ahead, Ojulari said boosting oil and gas production will remain NNPC’s top priority in 2026, with plans to attract more investment, revive idle assets, and expand output.
He said, “When we say increasing production, it sounds simple but there’s a lot that goes into it.”
Ojulari added that the President has charged NNPC to work towards attracting major investment, increasing oil production to two million barrels per day by 2027, and positioning the company to deliver long-term growth in the energy sector.
