Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is set to formally defect to African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a major political realignment ahead of 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the planned move is expected to take place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in Enugu, and will involve Obi, some serving lawmakers elected on the platform of Labour Party, and members of Obidient movement across the southeast.
Sources familiar with the development said the defection would end months of uncertainty over Obi’s political future and signal his next platform ahead of 2027 presidential race.
Lawmakers reportedly linked to the move include Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central, Senator Tony Nwoye of Anambra North, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia South, as well as PDP chieftain Ben Obi and other political figures in the region.
It remains unclear whether Abia State Governor Alex Otti will be part of the defection, as he has recently been linked with possible moves to other parties ahead of the next election cycle.
According to sources, the move could strengthen the ADC and reshape opposition politics ahead of 2027, especially as Obi has openly expressed interest in returning to the presidential ballot.
