Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced that he has instructed his legal team to withdraw all defamation cases he filed against individuals, including those linked to allegations made against him by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Senator representing Kogi Central.

Gatekeepers News reports that Akpabio made the disclosure on Thursday during a New Year mass at Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The Senate President said he had initiated nearly nine court cases against people he accused of damaging his reputation through false claims.

He said, “I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals, against people who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name, and all.”

Akpoti explained that a message delivered by the priest during the church service influenced his decision to abandon the legal actions.

He said, “But listening to the priest, I suddenly realised he was talking to me. So I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against me.”

Recall that in December 2025, Akpabio filed a N200 billion defamation suit at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja against Senator Natasha. The suit followed allegations of sexual harassment made against him.

Earlier, in a February interview on Arise TV, Natasha alleged that Akpabio made sexual advances towards her at his office and residence in Akwa Ibom State. She claimed that her challenges in the Senate began after she rejected the alleged advances. Akpabio has consistently denied the claims.

The controversy had drawn national attention, especially as it came after a public disagreement between the two lawmakers on the floor of the Senate over changes in seating arrangements.

The development also sparked wider debates on conduct, accountability, and decorum within the National Assembly.
