Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recommenced the continuous voter registration exercise across the country, marking the beginning of the second phase of the programme.

Gatekeepers News reports that the fresh phase started today after the first phase officially ended on December 10, 2025.

Recall that INEC had earlier opened an online pre-registration portal on August 18, 2025, before rolling out physical registration at approved centres nationwide on August 25, 2025.

During the first phase, the commission recorded massive participation, with millions of Nigerians beginning the registration process through the online platform.

In a statement released in December, INEC revealed that 9,891,801 citizens initiated online pre-registration during the first phase.

As of November 28, 2025, the commission said 2,572,054 registrations had been fully completed nationwide, combining both online and physical registrations.

The electoral body explained that the break between the two phases was used to carry out legally required activities, including verification and public scrutiny of the voters’ register.

INEC stated, “In accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the display of the register of voters for claims and objections was held from December 15 to 21, 2025, at local government area offices where the CVR exercise was conducted.”

It encouraged eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of the resumption, adding that registered voters can also use the opportunity to transfer their voting units, correct personal details, or replace lost voter cards.

The commission further advised those who participated in the first phase to continue verifying their details and report any errors or irregular entries on the register.

However, INEC clarified that voter registration remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory due to ongoing electoral activities.

The commission noted that new dates for the resumption of CVR in both locations will be communicated later.
