Bayelsa APC Rallies Behind Tinubu As Diri Leads 2027 Endorsement

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, led by Governor Douye Diri, have endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the endorsement was sealed on Tuesday at a special stakeholders’ meeting convened by Diri at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa. The motion was moved by the Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Dr Konbowei Benson, and seconded by a former Speaker of the House of Assembly and ex-deputy governor, Peremobowei Ebebi.

Key party leaders and stakeholders present at the well-attended meeting included the Chairman of the APC caretaker committee in the state, Dr Dennis Otiotio; Senator representing Bayelsa East, Benson Agadaga; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Sam Ogbuku; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare; and the APC National Working Committee (NWC) ex-officio member for the South-South, Godbless Diriware.

The meeting marked the first expanded gathering convened by Diri since he became a member and leader of the APC in Bayelsa State in October 2025. Expressing delight at the turnout and unity displayed, the governor said the party had resolved to work as one family to secure another term for Tinubu.

Diri urged party members to embrace forgiveness, humility and unity, warning against politics of bitterness and division, which he said could undermine peace and development in the state. He also advised members to adhere strictly to party rules and embrace consultation in their political engagements, adding that those with ambitions for elective offices in the next election cycle should put such aspirations on hold for now.

He said:

“Here we are today in a very big family of the APC. Let me use this opportunity to appreciate the old members of the party for the reception accorded to me and other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members who crossed over. It was a welcome like no other.”

Meanwhile, former Niger Delta militant leader and activist, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has also pledged support for Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Asari-Dokubo, now a paramount ruler in Degema Local Council Area of Rivers State, made the pledge when Wike paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Degema. He said Wike stood by him during difficult periods in his life and described the visit as an opportunity to reciprocate that support.

Recalling his past struggles, Asari-Dokubo said:

“As far back as 1992, I did not imagine I would be what I am today. You are my friend, and whatever is going to happen, I will stand by you to ensure success.”

Earlier, Wike explained that his visit was part of efforts to sensitise the people of Degema on the decision of his political family to support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, adding that it was also important to pay Asari-Dokubo a courtesy visit.

In a related development, the Rivers Elders Council has also endorsed Tinubu for a second term under the platform of the “Renewed Hope Family,” an initiative championed by Wike. The endorsement was announced by the council’s chairman, Ferdinand Alabraba, during Wike’s thank-you visit to Akuku-Toru Local Council Area of the state.
