Super Eagles Resume Travel To Marrakesh After Allowance Dispute

Super Eagles have arrived in Marrakesh ahead of their quarter-final match against Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, bringing an end to their protest over unpaid allowances.

Gatekeepers News reports that the players and team officials had earlier threatened not to travel from Fez, their initial base, after complaining that match bonuses for their four games at the tournament had not been paid.

The situation prompted swift intervention from the Federal Government, which moved to fast-track the payment process.

Doris Uzoka-Anite, minister of state for finance, explained that the delay was due to the conversion process to move funds into foreign currency in line with the players’ preference.

She added that the transfers to the players’ domiciliary accounts had been approved and would reflect within a few days. Following the assurance, the team proceeded on the five-hour journey to Marrakesh for Saturday’s quarter-final tie.

Nigeria goes into the match as the tournament’s highest-scoring side with 12 goals, while Algeria boasts the best defensive record, having conceded just once in four games.

The winner of Saturday’s clash will advance to face either Morocco or Cameroon in the semi-final.
