National Industrial Court in Abuja has issued an interim injunction stopping the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and its members from going ahead with a nationwide strike that was set to begin on January 12, 2026.
Gatekeepers News reports that Justice Emmanuel Subilim granted the order on Friday, following an ex parte application by the Federal Government and the Attorney General of the Federation.
The suit names NARD, its National President, Dr. Mohammad Suleman, and Secretary‑General Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim as defendants.
The court barred the association and anyone acting on its behalf from calling, directing, organising, participating in, or preparing for any form of industrial action, including strikes, work stoppages, go‑slows, or picketing. The injunction will stay in place until the substantive motion on notice is heard on January 21, 2026.
NARD had earlier said it planned to resume a nationwide strike tagged Total, Indefinite and Complete Strike (TICS 2.0) on January 12 after accusing the Federal Government of failing to implement a Memorandum of Understanding agreed with the government following a prior strike.
The association’s demands include the reinstatement of dismissed doctors, payment of salary and promotion arrears, implementation of professional allowances with arrears in the 2026 budget, and resolution of salary delays and other welfare issues.
The court directed that the defendants be served with the order within seven days and allowed them to apply to vary or discharge the injunction within the same period after service.
