Federal government has allocated N115 billion in 2026 proposed budget for the reintegration of former militants under the presidential amnesty programme.
Gatekeepers News reports that the provision is listed as an ongoing project under the service-wide vote, which is managed by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
The allocation is part of the wider funding framework supporting the presidential amnesty programme, an initiative designed to rehabilitate ex-agitators from the Niger Delta through education, vocational training, and empowerment schemes aimed at reducing insecurity in the region.
The proposed spending falls within the N9.1 trillion budgetary envelope assigned to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in the 2026 appropriation bill.
Budget documents indicate that the ministry ranks among the largest recipients of proposed funding, with resources also covering its headquarters and agencies such as the National Bureau of Statistics, the Nigerian Institute for Economic and Social Research, and the Centre for Management Development.
President Bola Ahmer Tinubu presented the N58.18 trillion 2026 federal budget to the national assembly on December 19, 2025. He earmarked a significant portion of the budget for defence and security, stressing that economic investment and development cannot be sustained without improved security nationwide.
The president said the spending plan reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening economic stability, improving competitiveness, and ensuring that growth delivers tangible benefits to citizens.
The Senate subsequently advanced the 2026 appropriation bill to second reading on December 23, 2025, as legislative consideration of the proposals continues.
