NJC Recommends 14 Candidates For Federal High Court Appointment

National Judicial Council (NJC) has forwarded 14 nominees to President Bola Tinubu for appointment to the federal high court bench.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Thursday, Kemi Ogedengbe, NJC deputy director of information, said the recommendations emerged from the council’s 110th meeting held on January 13–14, 2026.

According to Ogedengbe, the candidates were cleared following thorough security vetting, with no adverse reports found against any of them.

The recommended nominees include Suleiman Amida Hassan, Muhammad Barau Saidu, Igboko Chinelo Conchita, Onuegbu Chioma Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Vera Eneabo, Abubakar Musa Usman, Salihu Aisha Yunusa, Ikpeme Joy Bassey, Shehu Umaru Adamu, Mohammed Ibrahim Buba, Eigege-Binjin Nendelmum Judith, Usoro Kuyik Uduak, and Nwoye Osinachi Donatus.

Additionally, NJC recommended Justice Joseph Oyewole of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court.

The council also approved 27 candidates for state high courts across Borno, Niger, Benue, Taraba, Plateau, Delta, and Ekiti states. Six kadis were cleared for the Sharia Courts of Appeal in Niger, Taraba, and Katsina, while two judges were approved for the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal.

NJC emphasised that these appointments are part of its ongoing effort to strengthen the judiciary and ensure timely dispensation of justice across federal and state courts.
