US President Donald Trump on Wednesday posted private messages exchanged with French President Emmanuel Macron and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, revealing growing tensions over Greenland.
Gatekeepers News reports that In the messages, Macron wrote:
“I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland.”
He also offered to host a G7 summit, inviting countries including Russia and Denmark to discuss European-US disagreements over the Arctic territory, which is an autonomous region under Denmark.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that global security depends on US control of Greenland, a stance that has sparked diplomatic unease in Europe.
Rutte’s text took a more conciliatory tone:
“I am committed to finding a way forward on Greenland. Can’t wait to see you.”
Trump’s response, if any, was not included in the screenshots.
The disclosure comes a day after leaked correspondence with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre caused controversy. In that letter, Trump claimed he was snubbed for the Nobel Peace Prize and insisted that his annexation plans justified demanding more support from NATO.
“Considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,” he wrote.
“I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding,” he added, demanding reciprocal action from the alliance.
European leaders are scheduled to meet on Thursday to weigh their response to Trump’s Greenland push and tariff threats, amid escalating transatlantic tensions.
