Twenty-one members of Kano State House of Assembly have officially left New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gatekeepers News reports that the lawmakers announced their decision on Monday, the same day Governor Abba Yusuf officially announced his defection to the APC.

The development followed the Governor’s recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, which triggered major political realignments in the state.

In his resignation letter addressed to the chairman of Diso-Chiranchi ward in Gwale Local Government Area, the Governor cited deepening internal crises and prolonged leadership disputes within the NNPP as reasons for his exit.

Governor Yusuf left the party alongside the 21 assembly members, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen in Kano State.

Those who defected include the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore, representing Rogo, and the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, representing Tofa/Rimin Gado.

Other principal officers are Majority Leader Lawan Hussain of Dala, Deputy Majority Leader Garba Shehu Fammar of Kibiya, and Chief Whip Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki of Kumbotso.

Also among the defectors are Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu of Gabasawa, Lawal Tini of Ajingi, Musa Tahir Haruna of Albasu, Ali Lawan Alhassan of Bagwai/Shanono, Ali Muhammad Tiga of Bebeji, Hafiz Gambo of Bunkure, Rabiu Shuaibu of Dawakin Kudu, Tukur Mohammed of Fagge, Murtala Muhammad Kadage of Garko, and Abdulmajid Isah Umar of Gwale.

Engr. Ahmad Ibrahim of Karaye, Alhassan Zakari of Kura/Garun Malam, and Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq of Madobi also joined the APC. Abdulhamid Abdul of Minjibir, Muhammad Ibrahim of Rano, Kabiru Sule Dahiru of Tarauni, and Ali Abdullahi Manager of Wudil completed the list.

The defections have reshaped the political balance in the Kano State Assembly and boosted the APC’s strength in the state legislature.
