A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has declared Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention held in the state on November 15, 2025, invalid and barred members of the faction that emerged from it from acting as the party’s national leadership.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Uche Agomoh, the court held that the convention was organised in clear disobedience of existing court orders and internal party procedures, and so all decisions taken at the event are null and void.
The ruling also restrains Kabiru Tanimu Turaki and others purportedly elected during the Ibadan convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party, saying the convention cannot override standing legal judgments.
The court further recognised that the Peoples Democratic Party can only operate through its caretaker committee until a proper and lawful national convention is held, affirming that the committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only valid National Working Committee of the party pending a lawful convention.
The dispute stems from a long-running leadership struggle within the party, with the Turaki-led faction having organised the Ibadan convention amid conflicting court orders and legal challenges raised by rival stakeholders.
Reacting to the judgment, the Turaki faction said it will appeal the ruling and has briefed its lawyers to take the matter to the Court of Appeal, insisting that the leadership elected at the convention remains legally intact as it seeks further legal relief.
