NRC Alleges Oyo LG Chairman Led Destruction Of Rail Assets In Ibadan

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has accused the Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, Kehinde Adeyemi Amanda, of leading the destruction and removal of railway assets in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a statement issued on Tuesday, the NRC said the council chairman arrived at the Mile One-Ten axis along the corporation’s railway right-of-way with a group that included suspected thugs, persons dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms, and operatives of the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun).

The corporation’s spokesperson, Callistus Unyimadu, said the group allegedly vandalised and carted away critical rail infrastructure, including rails, sleepers, signal poles, billboards and fencing belonging to NRC tenants along the corridor.

“According to the report, the destruction which occurred on Monday, February 2, 2026, was carried out by the Chairman of the Ibadan South-West Local Government Council, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Amanda, who allegedly led a group comprising thugs, persons dressed in Nigerian Army uniforms, and operatives of Amotekun to vandalize NRC properties at the Mile One-Ten axis,” the statement read.

The NRC said the council chairman claimed he was acting on the instructions of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

“During the incident, NRC rail assets including rails, sleepers, signal poles, billboards, as well as fences belonging to NRC tenants along the corridor, were reportedly destroyed and carted away. The affected area is a clearly defined and statutorily protected railway right-of-way,” Unyimadu said.

He added that efforts by the NRC Police Command to stop the operation were resisted, forcing officers to withdraw from the scene.

The Managing Director of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, appealed to Governor Makinde to intervene and call the council chairman to order to prevent further breakdown of law and order and continued abuse of the rights of railway workers.

The corporation described the incident as a grave violation of federal assets and said it would pursue appropriate security, administrative and legal actions to protect its properties and prevent future encroachment nationwide.
