All of the Christians kidnapped from churches in Kurmin Wali village in the Kajuru LFA of Kaduna State have now been freed after being held by suspected bandits for nearly three weeks.
Gatekeepers News reports that on January 18, armed attackers stormed three places of worship in the rural community before seizing dozens of worshippers during Sunday services, plunging families into fear and sparking widespread calls for their release. Initial reports said about 177 people were taken, though some escaped shortly after the incident.
In the past few days, local authorities and security forces worked with community leaders to secure the captives’ freedom. Government officials confirmed that the remaining abducted Christians have now returned and are being cared for by the Kaduna State Government pending formal announcements and medical checks.
Governor Uba Sani and other officials have welcomed the freed worshippers at government facilities, where they are receiving treatment and psychosocial support after weeks away from home in harsh conditions.
The attacks and subsequent kidnappings drew national attention, with religious groups and civil society calling for urgent action to address security challenges in Kaduna and protect vulnerable communities from further violence.
While authorities continue operations against criminal gangs in northern Nigeria, the release of the remaining abducted Christians has brought relief to families and residents of Kurmin Wali after a distressing ordeal.
