3 Children Abducted In Ebonyi As Police Launch Manhunt

Three young children have been abducted by suspected kidnappers in Ebonyi State, prompting the police to commence an intensive investigation and rescue operation.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Nkwegu, directly opposite the gate of the Nkwegu Military Cantonment, within Abakaliki LGA. The location of the abduction, close to a major military facility, has heightened public anxiety and drawn widespread attention to the case.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, Joshua Ukandu, said the victims consist of one two-year-old boy and two girls aged four and two. He disclosed that the parents of the children promptly reported the matter to the police, leading to the immediate activation of security measures across the area.

Ukandu explained that as of Sunday, the abductors had not made any ransom demand, and no arrests had been recorded. He added that security operatives were combing surrounding communities, border routes, and possible hideouts in a bid to track down the suspects and rescue the children unharmed.

According to him, detectives from the command have been deployed to gather intelligence, review available surveillance footage, and engage local vigilante groups to support the ongoing operation. Patrols have also been intensified across Abakaliki and neighbouring local government areas to prevent the movement of the suspects.

The police assured residents that every available resource is being mobilised to ensure the safe return of the children and the arrest of those responsible. Community members have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or useful information that could aid the investigation.

The abduction has sparked widespread concern among residents, parents, and civil society groups, who have called for a stronger security presence around residential areas and public facilities, especially locations close to military and security formations.
