Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the peaceful conduct and outcome of the council elections held across Abuja on Saturday, describing the results as a clear reflection of the president’s leadership vision.

Gatekeepers News reports that reacting to Tinubu’s earlier commendation of his performance in the FCT, Wike, in a statement issued on Sunday by his senior special assistant on public communication and social media, Lere Olayinka, said the election outcome demonstrated the impact of the president’s policies and commitment to democratic governance.

Wike, who spoke during a special broadcast on national television and radio stations on Sunday evening, praised Tinubu for the visible development in the FCT, noting that the council polls had clearly shown the difference between the ruling party and the opposition in the country. He said residents of the territory used their votes to express confidence in the federal government and its programmes.

According to him, the exercise also proved that FCT residents could not be misled by politicians who engage in superficial campaign gestures aimed at creating false impressions. He added that voters rejected what he described as deceptive tactics and instead embraced leadership focused on real progress.

“The residents of FCT demonstrated that they cannot be deceived by emergency democrats who have chosen not to see anything good in our country and its government,” the statement reads.

Wike said the election reflected growing optimism among residents, driven by Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, which he noted had restored confidence in governance and public institutions. He also commended the president for backing key democratic reforms, particularly the amendment of the Electoral Act, which he said had improved the credibility and transparency of elections.

The minister expressed gratitude to FCT residents for their trust in the democratic process and thanked political parties and candidates who participated in the polls for contributing to peaceful and competitive elections.

“To all the candidates who participated in the election, I commend your belief in our democracy. Your participation is proof of your commitment to ensuring that the voice of the minority is heard, even when the majority prevails,” he said.

Wike further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting what he described as a free, fair, and credible election, while also applauding security agencies for maintaining peace and order throughout the exercise.

He urged the newly elected council chairmen to lead with humility, commitment, and a strong sense of service, calling on them to focus on improving the living conditions of residents and driving sustainable development across the FCT.

In the final results, All Progressives Congress (APC) secured five out of the six chairmanship positions, while Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada. African Democratic Congress (ADC), which serves as the coalition platform for several opposition figures, failed to win any council seat.
