Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a sixth suspect in connection with the deadly attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which claimed dozens of lives in June 2022.
Gatekeepers News reports that security sources disclosed on Wednesday that the suspect was apprehended during a coordinated intelligence-led operation aimed at tracking down all individuals linked to the terrorist assault. The arrest followed weeks of surveillance and discreet investigations across multiple locations.
According to the DSS, the suspect is believed to have played a supporting role in the planning and execution of the attack, which shocked the nation and drew widespread condemnation.
The agency said preliminary findings indicated that the individual had direct links with previously arrested suspects and provided logistical assistance before and after the incident.
DSS added that the arrest represents a significant breakthrough in the ongoing effort to dismantle the terror network behind the attack and ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing every lead connected to the massacre, stressing that no suspect would be spared, regardless of how long it takes.
It also urged members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence that could assist security agencies in strengthening national security and preventing future attacks.
The Owo church attack, which occurred during Sunday Mass, left over 40 worshippers dead and several others injured, making it one of the deadliest assaults on a place of worship in recent Nigerian history.
