President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday decorated Tunji Disu with his new rank as Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
Gatekeepers News reports that the decoration ceremony was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.
The decoration ceremony, which took place inside the President’s office, was attended by top government officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; and the immediate past IGP, Egbetokun.
Disu’s appointment and decoration came barely 24 hours after President Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation, which was submitted on Tuesday and attributed to pressing family considerations. The President subsequently approved Disu’s appointment in an acting capacity, pending confirmation by the Nigeria Police Council.
While decorating Disu, Tinubu charged him to lead the Nigeria Police Force with discipline, professionalism, and integrity, urging him to rebuild public trust and intensify efforts against banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities across the country.
In his response, Disu thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide focused leadership aimed at strengthening internal security, improving police operations, and ensuring the protection of lives and property nationwide.
