A deadly road accident on Sunday claimed the life of one person and left three others badly injured after a truck loaded with yams collided with a commercial tricycle at Aiyetoro Junction along the traffic light axis in Epe, Lagos State.
Gatekeepers News reports that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed that the crash happened when the heavy-duty truck, travelling from Ijebu-Ode, attempted to make a U-turn inward Eleko.
During the manoeuvre, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off course and slam into a stationary tricycle parked by the roadside.
According to the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the truck, with registration number AGL 764 XB, crashed into the tricycle with registration number SMK 127 QR, leading to a violent impact that resulted in one fatality and three serious injuries.
LASTMA officers on routine patrol in the area immediately moved in to secure the scene and coordinate emergency response efforts. Personnel of Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and military officers were also deployed to assist in rescue operations.
The injured victims were carefully removed from the wreckage and rushed to the General Hospital in Epe for urgent medical care, while the remains of the deceased were also conveyed to the hospital for necessary procedures. Security agencies maintained order at the scene and ensured the smooth flow of traffic to prevent further disruption.
Reacting to the incident, General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sympathy to the family of the deceased and prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed.
He also wished the injured victims a quick recovery and urged relevant authorities to conduct a detailed investigation into the crash to ensure accountability and prevent future occurrences.
