Several members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives have changed their political affiliation, crossing from Young Progressives Party (YPP) and Labour Party (LP) to African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gatekeepers News reports that the defections were announced on the floor of the House during plenary, when Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu read out the lawmakers’ notices of departure.
Among those who switched allegiance were Victor Afam, Peter Anekwe, and Lilian Obiageli, who left the Labour Party to join the ADC, and Peter Uzokwe, who moved from the Young Progressives Party into the ADC fold. Omoruyi Osaro also defected from the LP to the ADC.
The departing lawmakers cited internal crises and leadership challenges within their former parties as key reasons for the move, saying the problems had hampered effective representation and political cohesion.
The shift further shrinks the representation of YPP and LP in the House, while strengthening the ranks of ADC as opposition parties continue to realign ahead of 2027 general elections.
