Kunle Remi Criticises AMVCA Award Presentation Style – Compares It To Oscars’ Own

Nigerian actor Kunle Remi has criticised the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) over the way winners receive their awards, suggesting the process does not match international standards.

Gatekeepers News reports that the actor shared his opinion on Monday through a post on his Instastory, where he uploaded a video showing Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan receiving the Best Actor trophy for his role in Sinners at the 2026 Oscars ceremony.

In the clip, Jordan’s award was engraved with his name immediately after his victory, a moment that impressed Remi and prompted him to compare the process with what he claims happens at the AMVCA.

“So they engrave your name after you win! Right there. Take it home! If na AMVCA, all of you will share one for the night then comeback and collect it at the next award,” he wrote.

Remi’s comment appeared to suggest that award recipients at the AMVCA may not receive personalised plaques instantly during the ceremony.

Remi has previously expressed frustration with AMVCA. In 2023, he publicly questioned why he was not nominated for his role as Saro in the film Anikulapo, despite the movie receiving 16 nominations at the awards ceremony.
