Security forces have uncovered and destroyed multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a coordinated operation in Imo state.
Gatekeepers News reports that the joint operation was carried out in Orsu Local Government Area by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade alongside personnel of the Nigerian Navy, Air Force, DSS, police, and civil defence.
During the exercise, operatives discovered and safely detonated one IED along the Eketutu–Uda axis before uncovering eight more devices, which were carefully disconnected and recovered by an explosive ordnance team.
All the explosives were later defused and destroyed to prevent harm to residents and security personnel.
Further search of the area led to the discovery of a suspected terrorist hideout, where security operatives recovered six live cartridges, batteries believed to be used for bomb-making, a face mask, and a damaged communication device.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to dismantle armed groups and restore stability in the south-east, where attacks linked to insurgent elements have persisted.
Authorities say the intensified raids are aimed at neutralising threats and preventing further attacks in affected communities.
