An explosion has rocked a community in Kwara State, leaving casualties and triggering fresh fears among residents already grappling with rising insecurity in the area.

Gatekeepers News reports that the incident occurred in Woro community, located in Kaiama Local Government Area, where an improvised explosive device (IED) reportedly detonated along a road as a vehicle passed.

Initial reports indicated that several persons were feared dead, although authorities later confirmed at least one fatality, with others sustaining injuries.

According to government officials, the explosion happened in the early hours of Monday, killing a male victim instantly, while a woman and her child in the vehicle were affected, with the woman receiving treatment at a hospital.

Local sources and security reports suggest the device may have been planted by suspected insurgents, raising concerns about the spread of extremist activities into parts of north-central Nigeria.

The attack has heightened tension in the community, which is still recovering from a deadly assault in February that left scores of residents dead and many displaced.

Residents expressed fear over the renewed violence, warning that the latest incident could force more people to flee the area. Security agencies have since launched investigations into the explosion, while calls for increased military presence and protection have intensified.
