2027 Polls: Oborevwori Directs Political Appointees To Step Down Before Primaries

Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed political appointees interested in contesting elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign from their current roles on or before March 31, 2026.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the directive was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Kingsley Eze Emu. According to the statement, the order is in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries ahead of the 2027 polls.

The SSG explained that the directive applies to all categories of political appointees who intend to participate in party primaries or seek nomination for any elective office.

Those affected include commissioners, advisers, directors-general, executive assistants to the governor, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants, and other political appointees serving in the state government.

The statement added that all affected officials must submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government no later than March 31, 2026. They are also required to hand over their responsibilities to the permanent secretary or the most senior career officer in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

The government urged all concerned appointees to take note of the directive and ensure full compliance.
