A tragic road accident in Ibadan has claimed the lives of six people after a petrol-laden truck lost control and crushed multiple vehicles along a busy route in the city.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to reports, the tanker, loaded with about 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), suffered brake failure while descending the Mapo–Beere–Oje road. The driver reportedly lost control, ploughing into several tricycles and road users.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred near the Fruits Market along the Oje axis in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area. The out-of-control truck crushed more than five tricycles, killing six people instantly, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Some survivors recounted how they narrowly escaped death, describing the moment the truck veered off course and rammed into vehicles on the busy road. The accident also caused panic in the area, with bystanders attempting rescue efforts before emergency responders arrived.
Police authorities in Oyo State confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing, with the case expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
