Makinde Announces ₦10k Monthly Transport Support For Oyo Civil Servants

Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation support fund for civil servants in Oyo State following the recent increase in petrol prices nationwide.

Gatekeepers Newreports that Makinde announced the measure during the supervision of the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme held in partnership with the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo.

The governor explained that the support, which will run initially for three months, is part of the state government’s broader response to the current economic situation, particularly the rising cost of transportation affecting workers’ welfare and productivity.

According to him, the initiative is intended to ease the financial burden on civil servants while ensuring smooth operations across ministries, departments and agencies.

“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden,” the governor stated.

Makinde noted that the intervention aligns with his administration’s commitment to worker-friendly policies and ongoing economic relief efforts under the Oyo State government’s Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) framework.

The event also featured the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries under the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP) and other targeted programmes designed to stimulate economic activities and improve livelihoods across the state.

Stakeholders at the engagement described the initiative as a timely intervention, saying the transportation support would provide immediate relief for workers facing inflationary pressures.

The ₦10,000 transport support will take effect from March, while details on how the funds will be disbursed will be communicated through appropriate government channels.
