Edo State Government has issued a strong warning to parties involved in the Okpella traditional leadership dispute, cautioning against any form of self-help following a recent court ruling.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, Rt Hon Festus Ebea, the government said it has already begun legal steps to challenge the ruling, noting that the Attorney General has initiated an appeal and a stay of execution.
The statement urged all parties to maintain the status quo to prevent a breakdown of law and order within the community.
Authorities stressed that any attempt to forcefully take over the traditional institution, intimidate others, or disrupt peace in Okpella would be considered illegal and would face strict legal consequences.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the authority of the judiciary, warning that it would not tolerate any actions aimed at undermining the legal process.
Security agencies, according to the statement, have been placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any disturbances.
Residents and stakeholders in Okpella were advised to remain calm, avoid provocative actions, and allow the judicial process to proceed without interference.
The government further assured that it would act decisively against anyone found threatening public order or the peaceful coexistence of the community.
