Tinubu Pledges All Salaries Since Taking Office To Armed Forces Support Fund

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that he will donate all the salaries he has earned since assuming office in May 2023 to a special welfare fund for members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces and their families.

Gatekeepers News reports that the announcement was made as part of activities marking his 74th birthday. In a statement personally signed by Tinubu, he said the gesture was intended to honour “the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces.”

The president described the contribution as a personal commitment and said, “On this my 74th birthday, I celebrate the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces.”

Tinubu explained that “all my salaries since assuming office will be paid into this account as seed funding, irrespective of existing insurance and welfare schemes for members of our armed forces.”

The fund is expected to support wounded soldiers, personnel who have lost limbs, and the widows, widowers, and children of those who died in service.

He also called on Governors, members of National Assembly, private sector players, friends, and well-wishers to support the initiative, saying further details of the fund would be made available in due course.

The dedicated welfare fund was launched with the aim of providing long-term support and recognition for the sacrifices of military personnel and their families.
