University of Jos (UNIJOS) has suspended all examinations following a deadly attack by gunmen in Plateau State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the decision affects exams scheduled for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, after an attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, an area known to house many students and staff of the institution.
In a statement issued by Emmanuel Madugu, the university’s deputy registrar for information and public relations, the management said the move was necessary due to rising tensions triggered by the incident.
“In view of the late evening fatal attacks by unknown gunmen on residents of Angwan Rukuba… and the consequential tensions it has generated,” the statement said, announcing the postponement of the examinations.
The university noted that the affected exams would be rescheduled, while urging students and staff to remain vigilant and cautious in their movements both on and off campus.
Members of the university community were also advised to avoid early morning movements and report any suspicious activities to security authorities.
Management added that it is working closely with relevant security agencies to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of lives and property within the university environment.
The development follows heightened insecurity in parts of Plateau State, with authorities reportedly imposing restrictions, including a curfew in affected areas, to restore calm.
