A federal high court in Kaduna has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Gatekeepers News reports that the decision was made by Justice Rilwani Aikawa following proceedings on Tuesday, where both the defence and prosecution addressed pending issues related to the bail request. During the session, el-Rufai’s counsel withdrew an earlier application asking the judge to recuse himself from the case, a move accepted by the court.

The prosecution also informed the court that it had filed a counter-affidavit opposing the bail application, prompting the adjournment to allow for proper consideration of arguments from both sides.

El-Rufai is facing trial alongside another defendant over allegations of fraud and money laundering brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Both defendants had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The former Governor appeared in court after being temporarily released on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother, whose burial took place over the weekend.

The court is expected to deliver its ruling on the bail application at the next hearing on Wednesday.
