Operatives of the Department of State Services have taken custody of Nasir El-Rufai following court proceedings in Kaduna, as a Federal High Court fixed April 14 for ruling on his bail application.
Gatekeepers News reports that El-Rufai was brought before the court by Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where arguments on his bail request were heard. However, after proceedings, DSS operatives took over custody of the former Governor.
The court adjourned the matter after listening to submissions from both the defence and prosecution, with the presiding judge fixing April 14 to deliver a ruling on the bail application.
El-Rufai is facing charges related to alleged fraud, money laundering, and abuse of office, all of which he has denied.
Speaking after the hearing, his lead counsel, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), expressed optimism about the outcome.
“The bail application was argued and responded to, and the ruling has been fixed for April 14. We look forward to that day. We are hopeful,” he said.
Iyamu also noted that the legal team is prepared for a separate case involving the DSS scheduled for April 10 at a Federal High Court in Abuja, describing it as a different matter.
The development follows El-Rufai’s earlier arraignment alongside another defendant on charges bordering on corruption and related offences, as legal proceedings against the former governor continue.
