Electric Spark Forces Temporary Shutdown Of MMIA Terminal 3

Operations at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 3 in Lagos were briefly disrupted on Wednesday afternoon after an electrical spark in an operational office triggered the release of smoke.

Gatekeepers News reports that Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said the incident occurred at about 14:05 hours, prompting the temporary closure of Terminal 3 while safety teams responded and contained the situation. All flights that normally operate from Terminal 3 were diverted to Terminal 2 to ensure continuity of services for passengers.

The agency also confirmed that electrical maintenance work is underway to restore full functionality before reopening the terminal and that personnel from the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) acted swiftly to control the situation.

This latest electrical issue comes weeks after a major fire incident at MMIA, underscoring ongoing infrastructure challenges at the airport’s facilities.
