Transportation Minister Said Alkali Resigns To Contest Gombe Governorship

Said Alkali, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, has resigned from his position to contest the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.

Gatekeepers Newreports that in a statement on Tuesday, Umar Jibril, the minister’s aide, said the resignation comes in compliance with a presidential directive requiring all political appointees seeking elective offices to step down by March 31.

“The minister is resigning to contest for the governorship in the upcoming elections. In his letter, he expressed deep appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve, citing significant progress made in the transportation sector during his tenure,” the statement read.

“The President has accepted the resignation and thanked the Minister for his dedicated service to the nation.”

President Bola Tinubu appointed Alkali as Minister of Transportation on August 16, 2023, during a cabinet reshuffle. The appointment was aimed at strengthening the transportation sector, including roads, rail, and logistics, across the country.
