The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspected terrorist in Kwara State, in what authorities describe as part of ongoing efforts to combat rising security threats.
Gatekeepers News reports that the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Mallami Abubakar, was apprehended during a routine patrol in Nanu, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
Police said the arrest was carried out by a joint patrol team comprising operatives, members of the National Forest Guards, and local vigilantes.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly been contacted by an associate from Niger State and asked to travel to another location with the intention of joining a terrorist group linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province and Lakurawa network.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the suspect is currently in custody, adding that a full investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of his involvement and to track down other possible collaborators.
Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, reiterating the command’s commitment to ensuring safety across Kwara State.
