A fire incident has affected a section of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) headquarters in Lagos, causing panic among residents and passers-by before emergency responders brought the situation under control.

Gatekeepers News reports that the fire broke out on Monday night at UBA House, located in Marina on Lagos Island. The building, a major commercial high-rise in the area, was seen in viral videos with parts of it engulfed in flames as onlookers called for urgent intervention.

Firefighters from Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived shortly after the incident was reported and worked to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the structure.

Officials later confirmed that the fire was limited in scope, affecting only a specific section of the building. Shakiru Amodu, head of public education for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, described the situation as minor, noting that it was quickly brought under control.

He said, “Nothing serious, more like a fire scare as it was curtailed in good time. Just the inverter battery section.”

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated from the inverter battery room located within the building. No casualties or injuries were reported as of the time of filing this report.

Authorities are expected to carry out further assessments to determine the exact cause and ensure compliance with safety standards.
