Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a football agent accused of defrauding a player of N11 million under the pretense of securing trials with foreign football clubs.

Gatekeepers News reports that the suspect allegedly convinced the footballer that he had connections with overseas clubs and could arrange professional trials abroad. On the strength of these claims, the player reportedly paid a total of N11 million to facilitate the deal.

Investigations revealed that the promised trials never materialised, raising suspicion and prompting a petition to the anti-graft agency. The EFCC subsequently traced the transaction and arrested the agent for his alleged involvement in the scam.

Further details indicate that the suspect used deceptive tactics, including false assurances and possibly third-party account details, to convince the victim of the legitimacy of the offer.

The commission is expected to proceed with prosecution after concluding investigations, as part of its broader efforts to clamp down on fraud schemes targeting unsuspecting Nigerians, including aspiring athletes seeking opportunities abroad.
