Yusuf Buhari, son of late former president Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
Gatekeepers News reports that the development was disclosed by Bashir Ahmad, a former special assistant on digital communications to the ex-president.
Speculation had circulated on social media on Monday night regarding Yusuf Buhari’s reported political ambition. The reports were linked to a letter dated April 3, purportedly signed by him, in which he informed stakeholders of his decision to run for the federal legislative seat representing the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter reads.
Confirming the development in a post on his X page, Ahmad said the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders.
“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.
Since the end of his father’s administration, Yusuf Buhari has largely remained out of the public spotlight, making this declaration his most significant political move so far.
