Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, on Wednesday hosted members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state in the House of Representatives at his residence in Abuja, intensifying speculations about his planned defection.

Gatekeepers News reports that the meeting was part of ongoing consultations as the Governor considers leaving Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid internal party tensions and broader political realignments.

Speaking after the meeting, Dabo Ismail, who represents Toro federal constituency, said the gathering was convened to discuss political developments in Bauchi and across Nigeria, as well as to engage key stakeholders ahead of a possible defection.

He noted that discussions were ongoing and that a final decision would be made known in the coming days, adding that the lawmakers would continue consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.

The meeting comes amid a series of political moves by the governor. Earlier, Mohammed had hosted APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Abba Yusuf in Bauchi, while also engaging members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of broader consultations on his political future.

Although the Governor had previously suggested that the ADC might be a preferred platform, his continued engagement with APC stakeholders indicates a possible shift in strategy.

Meanwhile, some APC stakeholders in Bauchi have reportedly called for wider consultations before any move to admit the governor into the ruling party, highlighting internal concerns over the proposed defection.

The development signals growing political realignment in Bauchi State ahead of future elections, with Mohammed’s next move expected to significantly influence the state’s political landscape.
