Digital learning Gains Momentum As TETFund Backs Blackboard LMS

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing digital transformation in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector through sustained support for the Blackboard Learn Learning Management System (LMS).

Gatekeepers Newreports that the initiative, driven in partnership with Anthology Blackboard, is expected to significantly enhance teaching and learning across more than 280 public tertiary institutions nationwide.

During a recent meeting with representatives of Anthology Blackboard, TETFund highlighted the growing importance of the LMS in improving student engagement, encouraging faculty adoption, and elevating the overall quality of education delivery. The platform has already recorded considerable impact, with over two million users benefiting from its tools and resources.

A major highlight of the engagement was the introduction of Video Studio, an advanced Blackboard feature that supports video-based instruction, interactive assignments, and improved communication between lecturers and students.

The tool is designed to foster inclusivity, particularly for students in low-bandwidth areas, by enabling flexible and accessible learning options.

Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to ensure institutions are adequately equipped to maximise the benefits of digital technology for teaching, learning, and performance monitoring.

Also speaking, the Country Director and Head of Business, West Africa at Pole Global Marketing (PGM), implementing partner for Anthology Blackboard in Nigeria, Michael Ladipo, described the LMS as central to expanding digital education nationwide.

“The partnership between TETFund and Anthology Blackboard is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving educational innovation. It shows how public-sector vision, combined with the right technology, can transform higher education,” Ladipo said.

As Nigeria continues to advance toward a fully digital higher education ecosystem, initiatives such as this underscore a broader commitment to hybrid learning, inclusivity, and global competitiveness.

With the Blackboard LMS, universities across the country are better positioned to deliver more accessible, engaging, and data-driven learning experiences, equipping the next generation of leaders and innovators.
